    2024-2025 Welcome Letter

I hope this message finds you well.  We will soon be embarking on a new school year; we are committed to fostering healthy habits.  We are mindful of healthy eating.  Students must take a fruit or a vegetable at each meal, and we encourage them to at least try it.  We have increased our offerings of fresh fruits and vegetables during lunch and are introducing new items when possible.

Our district has a wellness policy, which recognizes that student wellness and proper nutrition are related to students’ physical well-being, growth, development, concentration, and readiness to learn.  You are welcome to view our Wellness Policy posted on our webpage:

Keeping our goal in mind to promote healthy eating, we have recommendations for healthy snacks listed below.

    • Wheat Crackers with fruits and/or peanut butter (unless allergy in classroom)
    • Low fat snacks such as pretzels or popcorn
    • Yogurt parfaits with fruit
    • Fresh Veggies (Celery, Carrots, Peppers, Cherry Tomatoes, Cucumbers, etc) with Ranch dressing, Cottage Cheese, Hummus or Guacamole
    • Celery with Peanut Butter and Raisins (Ants on a Log)
    • Whole Grain Breads, Animal Crackers, Graham Crackers, Granola
    • String Cheese or Cheese cubes
    • Fresh fruits (Watermelon, Strawberries, Berries, Bananas, Honeydew, etc)
    • Dried fruits (Raisins, Craisins), Homemade Trail Mix (whole grain cereal, unsweetened dried fruits, nuts or seeds), Roasted Chickpeas
    • Frozen Yogurt or Frozen Fruits
    • Cups of Fruit (Applesauce, Peaches, Pears, etc)
    • Hardboiled eggs
    • Unsweetened Cereal, Sunflower Seeds, Peanuts (unless allergy in classroom)

We would also suggest the above items for those who choose to pack their lunch.  Together, we can create an environment that supports healthy eating habits and promotes overall well-being.  Drink suggestions would include Whole Fruit Juices, Water, or Milk (available for purchase in the cafeteria for $0.60).  We ask that you do not send soda pop or carbonated drinks, as well as avoiding foods with higher sugar, fat, and calorie contents such as cupcakes and candy.
