2019-2020 Scholarships:


Scholarship:  Curwensville Alliance Church Carla and Levi Rowles Memorial Scholarship - $750

Criteria:  Application requirements are available in the Guidance Office.  In addition to the application, please attach letters of recommendation from each of the following:  1.  Your pastor,  2. A lay-leader in your church, 3.  Someone in your community  (none of these should be related to you).

Deadline:   Return completed application to the Guidance Office no later than April 3, 2020.  



Scholarship:  Gladys A. Tozier Scholarship    

-Criteria:  Include the following with your application:  1.  A copy of your parents' and applicant's Federal Income Tax Return that shows the taxable income - schedules are not necessary. 2.  A letter of acceptance from the college you are attending. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of need, scholarship and character.

The applicant must be a resident of Clearfield County and include the following with their application:

CNB Scholarship:

High school graduating seniors with intentions to further their education at a college or university and seeking a business related degree.  Applications along with further details are available at https://www.CNBBank.bank/WHO-WE-ARE/Community-Involvement/Scholarship-Program.   Deadline:  Entire application packet must be turned into the guidance office by 11:59 p.m. March 22, 2020 or complete the online application form at www.CNBBank.bank/Scholarship by 11:59 pm March 22, 2020. Winners will be announced on April 6, 2020.



Katrina Seaburn Memorial Scholarship - $500 (2)

Two graduating seniors from Curwensville will each receive a $500 scholarship.  To qualify for this scholarship, the senior must be a member of the National Honor Society, have participated and lettered in a Varsity sport and lettered in band/choir/band front  during their high school career.  Applications with further details are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline:  April 3, 2020.



First Commonwealth Bank Scholarship Program - $1,000

Eligibility: Graduating high school seniors with a 3.0 GPA (or an 85% average) or better. 

Requirements: Applicant must complete an essay (500 words or less) detailing how the student put their community first by being engaged in community support activities and how they put their academics first by excelling in the classroom.

Must submit completed  application and essay.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office. Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m.. on March 2, 2020. Winners will be notified by April 20, 2020. Application may be submitted online @ (http://www.fcbanking.com/scholarship) or by postal mail (First Commonwealth Bank & Communications Department, P.O. The Joy Micahels Memorial Scholarship- (2) $500.00 Recipients

The student applying for this scholarship must write an essay answering the following questions:

What does Joy mean to you?

We would like for this essay to be open-ended, so feel free to explain how the meaning of joy has affected your life in the past, present, or will affect it in the future. Be creative!

The essay requirements are as follows:

   1.   The essay must be at least one page typed.

   2.   The font must be Calibri, 12 point.

   3.   The line spacing must be 1.5

-A sheet with details is available in the guidance office.

Deadline:  Submit Application, essay, and one letter of recommendation to the Guidance Office on or before noon April 17, 2020.


Scholarship:  Curwensville Youth Football Program - Senior Girl Cheerleader, Band, Flag Twirler, or Baton Twirler      Girl - $500

Criteria:  Awarded to a graduating senior boy who participated in the football program and finished the program at the high school level who personifies integrity and character while obtaining academic success.  

An essay on the subject of how participating as a high school cheerleader, band participant, flag twirler, or baton twirler enriched your life on and off the football field and one letter of recommendation must accompany this scholarship application.

Scholarship:  The Brenda Clapsaddle Thornhill Memorial Scholarship - $750 

Criteria:   Awarded to a graduating senior girl of the Curwensville or Clearfield Area High School who personifies integrity and character, who has been a two year varsity letter winner in the sports of basketball, volleyball and/or softball, while obtaining academic success.

To apply:  All interested students should submit the application, along with an essay on the subject of how playing high school sports enriched your life on and off the playing field, and one letter of recommendation must accompany this scholarship application.

Deadline:  Submit application, essay, and letter of recommendation to the Guidance Office on or before 12:00 noon on April 20, 2020.

Criteria:   Awarded to a female student who displays leadership in her school and her community.

The following two questions must be answered in essay form and submitted along with an application that can me found in the guidance office.

   1.   What qualities and actions make a good leader?

   2.   How do you want to use your leadership skills in the future to make an implact on the world and inspire other women?

Deadline:  Submit application, essay, and letter of recommendation to the Guidance Office on or before 12:00 noon on April 17, 2020.


Scholarship:  Eileen C. Withey Memorial Scholarship - $1,000

Criteria:  Graduating senior accepted into an accredited school of higher learning, Majoring in speech communications or related field, Grade average of 90 or above, One page hand written essay as to why this scholarship should be awarded to you.  Individual should be innovative, hardworking, humble, creative, selfless. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. Deadline:  April 5, 2019   

Scholarship:  Shirley A. Rowles Miller Memorial Scholarship - $2,000

1.  Graduating Senior who is entering a business or nursing major.

2.  Applicant must submit a one page HANDWRITTEN report on why you selected that major. (Do not include your name or any identifying names in the essay)

     Include a cover page with your name.

 Deadline:  Essay must be turned into the Guidance Office no later than 3 pm on Friday,  April 3, 2020.



Scholarship:  GFWC Curwensville Women's Club Fine Arts Scholarship - $750 

Criteria:  Students planning to pursue a post secondary education in a Fine Arts field.  Fine Arts includes Art, Art Education, Architectural Drafting, Fashion Design, Theatre, Performing Arts or similar art fields.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.   Deadline:  May 8, 2020.



United Electric "Shine the Light" Scholarship

The students' parents/guardians MUST be a member of the United Electric Cooperative, Inc., application available in the Guidance Office must be completed, copy of student's acceptance letter, tuition bill or current transcript must be included with the application.

Applications also available beginning November 5 at www.unitedpa.com

Completed application packet must be returned to the office of United Electric Cooperative no later than Sundy April 15, 2020 or Return to Guidance Office no later than April 15, 2020.



Shirley A. Rowles Miller Memorial Scholarship - $2,000

1.  Graduating Senior who is entering a business or health care profession.

2.  Applicant must submit a one page HANDWRITTEN report on why you selected that major. (Do not include your name or any identifying names in the essay)

 Deadline:  Essay must be turned into the Guidance Office no later than 3 pm on Friday, April 3, 2020.



The Janet McCracken Hansard Memorial Scholarship  

Awarded to one graduating senior who is pursuing a degree in Social Work.  If no social work candidates apply, then candidates pursuing related majors will be considered.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.

Deadline:  April 3, 2020.



Les Edmondson Scholarship

To qualify you must be an athlete, enrolled at an accredited college or university or accepted to a 4 year college or enrolled at an accredited technical school.  Submit an application

and write an essay that describes how involvement in sports has positively affected your life or how a coach has positively affected your life.   Applications are available in the

guidance office.

Deadline:  Essays and applications must be submitted by May 1, 2020.

 - Julie Riley Hale Memorial Scholarships - Preference given to nursing, physician assistant or medical degree majors

 - Judith Peale-Strattan Memorial Scholarships - Preference given to an applicant who demonstrates leadership and/or service to their community

 - Kurtz Bros. Scholarships - Awarded to an academically qualified high school student with preference to those who have summer work experience with Kurtz Bros.

 - Penn Highlands Clearfield Scholarships - Preference give to health related majors 

 - Woodward Pharmacy and City Drugs Educational Scholarships - Given to those who have attended Curwensville or Moshannon Valley High  Schools with a

    preference to non-traditional students

MEGHAN E. DEININGER ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Megan E. Deininger Endowment Scholarship Fund was established in 2018. The mission of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to high school seniors who will enroll for undergraduate study in the field of Culinary Management, Hospitality management, or Hotel and Restaurant Management.

This award will be based on: academic performance and transcripts, work history, community or volunteer work, references, and written essay. Scholarship funds awarded to a recipient will be sent directly to the recipient's college, university, or community college.

CRITERIA:
  • Applicant must be a high school senior graduating in May or June of 2020
  • Applicant must be accepted as a full-time student at an accredited college, university, or community college.
  • Applicant must intent to major in a curriculum or program of study in Culinary, Culinary Management, Hospitality Management, or Hotel & Restaurant Management.
  • Applicant must complete the application, submit and have the packet postmarked by May 1, 2020.
  • Applicants will be notified, if awarded a scholarship, by May 31, 2020.
Applicant must provide:
  1. Completed Application Form.
  2. Official high school transcript, with a copy of ACT or SAT test score sheet, in an envelope sealed by the high school or district.
  3. A letter of acceptance or proof of enrollment from the college, university, or community college.
  4. Two letters of recommendation from two separate sources (examples are: teachers, coaches, employers, clergy, guidance counselors.

THE PENNSYLVANIA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

This scholarship is available to students who reside in Pennsylvania. The program is privately funded by individual and corporate donaors; no tax or public funds are used. 

Eligibility Criteria

     1. Graduating High School Senior

     2. Legal residency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

     3. Attendance at a pennsylvania college, university, or career school as a full-time student

     4. Academic Achievement (minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA in high schools

     5. Commitment to community and demonstrated leadership qualities

     6. Extracurricular activities

     7. Financial need

CLEARFIELD COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICT

The Board of Directors of the Clearfield County Conservation District will be awarding scholarships from the W.G. "Turk" Jones Memorial Trust Fund and the Claude Schickling Foundation to students in an environmental field relating to conservation, forestry of agriculture.

The scholoarship is open to any student enrolled in a post-secondary instifution or college. Students must be a resident of Clearfield County. The application should be returned to the Conservation District by Februarfy 21, 2019.

CLEARFIELD-JEFFERSON SUICIDE PREVENTION SCHOLARSHIP 

A scholarship opportunity from Clearfield-Jefferson Suicide Prevention Team!  Attached is a copy of our application with a March 31, 2020 deadline to return. 

Through the Clearfield Jefferson Suicide Prevention Team, this scholarship will be presented annually to two deserving seniors residing in Clearfield or Jefferson county in the amount of $1,000.  This scholarship is an effort to encourage those that are dedicated to helping with the prevention of suicide.

Melanie Lynn Vaughn Memorial Scholarship

Application Guidelines: 

Application and Essay must be turned into the Guidance office no later than 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2020.
Graduating Senior who is entering the field of Special Education or a field relating to working with those students with special need -i.e., teaching, counseling, physical or occupation therapy, rehabilitation, or health care. These scholarships are for high school seniors of the class of 2020, who have plans to enter college no later than the Fall following graduation, Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor's degree at an accredited non-profit or private instituion in the US., Demonstrate a critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income), Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities, Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, Maintain a minimum GAP of 2.0, and Be a US citizen.

The scholarship is for high school seniors or recent graduates planning to attend a career school participating the the Imagine America High School Scholarship Program. Epilepsy Association of Western and Central PA Scholarship Program for students who have epilepsy/seizure disorder.

Are you a high school senior who has epilepsy/seizure disorder and are going on to post-secondary school? The three students with the highest total scores will receive a $1,500.00 scholarship and the remaining scholarship recipients will receive $1,000.00.  

Minimum Applicant Qualifications:

Applicant must have:

1)   Have a diagnosis of epilepsy/seizure disorder, this must be confirmed by a statement from the applicant's physician

2)   Provide proff of acceptance to a post-secondary academic or vocataional program

3)   Attend school full-time in the 2020-2021 school year

4)   Be a legal resident of Western or Central Pennsylvania

5)   Must attend at least one of the EAWCP's Run/Walks in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Altoona or Erie

Do no staple or fold paper work. Use a paper/binder clip and return in a large envelope. 

Note: Awards will be based on the quality of the applications through a competitive scoring system that balances need with achievement. The Epilepsy Association of Western and Central PA resesrves the right to determine each year the number of scholarships given. This is a onetime award.

The Central PA Chapter of the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) is announcing the continuation of its local and national scholarship program. The scholarships are open to female students currently residing in PA or attending high school, trade school, junior college, undergraduate school, or graduate school in PA. Scholarship: Western Pennsylvania Golf Association - WPGA Scholarship   Persons who have been employed at Member Clubs of the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association for at least two seasons are eligible to apply.  The program is open to high school seniors or students in their freshman or sophomore year of college. We highly recommend that caddies apply directly for the Evans Scholarship by contacting the Western Golf Association at (847) 724-4600. Deadline:  September 15, 2019. Scholarship: Words To Be Heard Scholarship

This scholarship will be presented to a student who is entering a helping profession i.e. teaching, counseling, healthcare, etc.  It will be given to a student from one of the member schools in the association.  There will be 2 - $250 scholarships awarded.

Scholarship:  Mary Fisher-Owens Memorial Scholarship

Must be a resident of Clearfield County, must be enrolled in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State as a full time first semester freshman.  Applications available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline:  Submit application along with transcript and two letters of recommendation by May 1, 2019.

Scholarship:  The Jack Riddle Memorial Scholarship - $500

This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who is furthering their education at a post secondary institution in an agriculture related field.  If no applicants are eligible under the above criteria, then the scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a business degree as long as the applicant and/or family have an agriculture related background.  See Guidance Office for details on required essay.  Deadline:  Essays are due to the Guidance Office no later than March 28, 2019

Criteria:   Awarded to a graduating senior girl of the Curwensville or Clearfield Area High School who personifies integrity and character, who has been a two year varsity letter winner in the sports of basketball, volleyball and/or softball, while obtaining academic success.

To apply:  All interested students should submit the application, along with an essay on the subject of how playing high school sports enriched your life on and off the playing field, and one letter of recommendation.

Scholarship:   CNB - $500

Scholarship:  Katrina Seaburn Memorial Scholarship - $500 (2)

Two graduating seniors from Curwensville will each receive a $500 scholarship.  To qualify for this scholarship, the senior must be a member of the National Honor Society, have

Information on the PenSPRA 2018 scholarship program is now available. Critieria:  Awarded to a deserving student who has overcome physical challenges with the help of home medical equipment and supplies.  Applicant must be a resident of PA or DE, applicant is a high school senior, the award must be used toward a post-high school education program.

Scholarship:  Healthcare Leaders Scholarship - $1,000

The Healthcare Leaders Scholarship is offered to students entering or currently pursuing an educational program related to nursing or medicine. Applicant must be a US citizen, at least 17 years of age, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

All applicants must submit a 600 to 1,000-word essay explaining what they hope to accomplish during their career in the medical field and how the scholarship would fulfill those goals. Recommended topics are included in the Personal Essay section.
