TEAM PHILOSOPHY

TEAM PHILOSOPHY
Volleyball played well is a thing of beauty. Few athletic endeavors require as much teamwork; rarely does a sport reward hard work so completely. Athletes who study the game and apply the lessson learned to relish every opportunity to practice and play.
The Lady Tide volleyball coaches love this game. We are committed to you as students, as athletes and as young women. It is our goal
to provide every opportunity for you to become as good as you want to be. More important, we strive to help you and your teammates become the best team you can.
TEAM COMES FIRST
As Lady Tide volleyball players, you agree that the team is paramount. Your individual goals and your team's goals do not necessarily
conflict, but when they do, you accept that decisions are made for the good of the team. Successes are sweeter - setback stings less when they are shared.
RULES HELP THE TEAM RUN SMOOTHLY
Each player must decide if she buys into our system and is willing to commit to this team. Every rule is for the benefit of the team, and you have to decide, in advance, whether you want to follow them. If not, you should not be a part of this team.
TEAM THRIVES ON TRUST AND RESPECT
You must trust your coach and your teammates, and behave in a way that earns their respect. You must do everything reasonably necessarry to make yourself and your team better.
OUR TEAM WORKS HARD
Everyone wants to win, but few make the sacrifices to do it. No one will give you anything in life, you must earn it. You can't cut corners, if for example, you don't have consistent killer serve, you should work long and hard to get one.
OUT ATHLETES LEARN TO BE COACHABLE
There is often more than one way to do things correctly. In some cases, however, our coaches will select a specific strategy for the benefit of the entire team, even if it may not seem to benefit a particular individual. You must be willing to make changes according to your coach's suggestions.
***IF COACHES SEEM TO BE "RIDING" YOU, IT IS USUALLY BECAUSE THEY THINK YOU ARE CAPABLE OF A HIGHER LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE, THEY ARE NOT PICKING ON YOU***
ON OUR TEAM, BENCH TIME IS PLAYING TIME
As a Lady Tide volleyball player, you maintain the same focus and enthusiasm whether you are between the lines or on the bench. You accept that playing time is decided by the coach for the good of the team in the circumstances of the moment. You know that the Lady Tide bench is very important; every player has her head in the game every moment, and is ready to come in at any opportunity. The team bench is the 7th man on the court.
OUR TEAM CAN BE SUCCESSFUL
Your coaches want you to know that almost any obstacle can be overcome with hard work. Commitment, perserverance and responsibilty will be rewarded.
***ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, YOUR TEAMMATES AND YOUR COACHES***
Ten Steps to Helping Your Coach Help You!!!

ATTENTION VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS: TEN STEPS TO HELPING YOUR COACH HELP YOU!! Coaches love it when their players get in the gym early, and no coach is impressed by those who straggle in "just on time" or a few minutes late. Your coach has many important jobs to take care of every day for your team. Don't make them waste time doing things you can do for them-they will greatly appreciate it! Doesn't it give you a good feeling when you are welcomed pleasantly? Your coach is no different. "Treat others as you want them to treat you." All coaches love hustle and enthusiasm - and hate the opposite. This shows respect and an eagerness to listen, learn and cooperate. This is very disrespectful and no one enjoys being "dissed". Besides, how can you possibly be listening if you're talking yourself? That is all any coach expects of their players- to do their best. This is usually viewed as being disrespectful and puts your coach on the defensive in front of everyone. Nothing good can come of this. You'll get a much better response to your inquiry and your approach to the situation will be appreciated. Everyone likes it when others show an interest in what they enjoy. |

When all is said and done, it's not the wins or losses that you will remember, but the friendships you made along the way.
Sports do not build character. They reveal it.
An athlete who plays team sports cannot win a game by himself. Being part of the TEAM is how it's done. Rather than focusing on personal glory, a true teammate does everything he can for his team.
"Ability is what gets you to the top.
Character is what keeps you there."
"A life not lived for the betterment of others is a life not lived."
A champion is someone who gets up even when they think they can't.
In order for a team to be successful, its players must leave their egos at home, and change the ME to WE.
You can't win a game by yourself, but you can lose one.
"The principle is competing against yourself. It's about self improvement, about being better than you were the day before."
